about

In On The Road, there’s this moment when Neal and Kerouac stop at a his sister's house, and Neal is blasting the blues on the phonograph and dancing about manically, and everyone around is completely bewildered by his behavior. Kerouac writes “the madness of Neil had bloomed into a weird flower.” As Neal grows progressively stranger, Kerouac only seems to love him more. That’s where I got the name for my record, Weirdflower. It’s the idea of accepting who you are, no matter how mad and incongruent with society that may seem. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’ve always felt like an outsider. And in this world where I’ve never been too sure if I belong, I’ve somehow managed to find a home in my music. I think being weird is the stuff of life. The old english root for “weird” is supernatural and magical in definition, it means infinite intertwining threads of destiny. Here’s to this odd, unconventional flower blooming out of the spiderweb of destiny.

Alexandra Riorden California

Alexandra Riorden’s debut LP Angel City Radio is an abstract chronicle of the tumultuous healing process after experiencing trauma, wrapped in a smoke-scented velvet curtain of shimmering indie-rock. Progressing like a Lynchian dream sequence, each song takes the listener down a different hallway in the labyrinth that is recovery; some dark, others reflective, but all moving towards empowerment. ... more
